RAPTURE 2014

OH MY GOSH!!
Cool Kids! Myself, Rick and Ruby!

My girl Ruby!

Last night... seeing Eminem live with my best friend Ruby and my classmate (and her cousin) Rick... was actually one of the best moments of my life! You never really can say someone is an artist until you view their work in person annnnd WOW! Eminem is my idol! The last concert I went to was Good Charlotte (they are my favourite band) but nothing will ever be greater than seeing Eminem LIVE! (Thanks Dad for my xmas present! I owe you big time! Wanna go to The Rolling Stones?) :)

Rapture 2014 was EPIC! From the 55,000 plus crowd... to the acts... 360, David Dallas, Action Bronson, J-Cole and of course Eminem!.. to the incredibly scary mosh pit! It was all just epic! I am still in awe of everything!

Marshall Mathers!
I must admit that I actually only caught glimpses of Eminem actually on stage... the rest was on the big screens and on my photos.... Being short and going to a concert is actually pretty hard...  And I'm not the only short person who can say that! (http://totalsororitymove.com/44-things-every-short-girl-can-relate-to/)
but it was worth it! I want to say thanks to all the dudes who let me in front of them so I could actually see ha ha. And to all of the chicks who elbowed me in the face and stood right in front of me knowing I was clearly shorter than them... I vow one day to attend a concert on stilts and stand in front of you! ha ha. But seriously... shorter people should get priority to be at the front!

360 Performing
Okay I'm done with promoting short people rights... Back to the actual concert...

My favourite acts were 360 and Eminem... I remember starting radio back in 2012 and I used to play Boys like you - 360 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDGSlfXsRiw) all the time! It was a good song to play! and hearing it live last night made it even better!

When I was younger, I was more of a Kelly Clarkson/Jesse McCartney kid... my brother was the one who was always cranking up Eminem at our house, collecting all his albums and trying to act just like him... As I grew older I fell in love with Eminem (and all kinds of other great music) and when he played his greatest hits last night... coeufvgijscbh!! Knew all the words instantly! (Sorry that you didn't get to come Nick... p.s. I stole your old Eminem CDs... Ha ha you aint getting them back now)

To sum last night up in 3 words... EXTREMELY EPICALLY AMAZING! ha ha.

Anyways I'm signing off for now because I am super tired! Getting lost and stuck in traffic... in Auckland... meant we didnt get home till around 3am. And today is my last day for a long time that I actually get to sleep during the day and use the "holidays" excuse. 8am class tomorrow... wish me luck!

Peace out,

Katie the Radio Girl!

Back into it...

So today is the day I returned to WINTEC after an ELEVEN WEEK break... I am now officially a SECOND YEAR STUDENT! (crazy aye!). Never thought I would get this far!

So much to organise and get sorted for Wintec! and many decisions that I have to make!

Trying to decide between Journalism and Public Relations as my major is the hard part! Both areas could take me into radio, but only one can take me to announcing - Journalism. I am not a huge writer, I prefer to talk - alot! but I know that Journalism is also one of the worst paid jobs out there and if I don't get into radio in the long run then I really don't want to settle for being an actual journalist... because I really do not want to pry into other peoples lives. Public Relations on the other hand could lead me into the world of promotions and event management, which I reckon is cool. I want to work in Public Relations at Disneyland if radio never happens... I have to pick which one to take soon and I feel like its one of those major decisions that you wish would decide itself. (HELP ME DECIDE PLEASE!)

First time in The Yak FM production studio - waaayyy back in 2012 :)

On a cooler note, I can't wait to do Broadcast Presentation in second semester... 15 more weeks to go! I cannot wait to do radio, loads and loads of radio! Kind of sad that the original Yak FM studio is getting knocked down but it'll be cool in the long run.

The Yak FM production studio... looking a little empty o.O

This is quite a short post today as I am still buzzing from seeing all my friends today for the first time in ages! I'm so pumped right now! I want to go to class NOW and learn and do assignments (I'll regret saying that later). But as the weeks go by I will fill y'all in on everything that's happening to this radio girl/student and hopefully I will make up my mind on everything soon!
Maurice... actively listening in Com1o1 :P... He is gunna kill me for this later!

Peace out!,

Katie x

P.S. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAURICE!! Muahahaha!

Welcome to the Diary of a Radio Girl!

Hey! Welcome to my blog! My name is Katie and I am a radio girl!

What am I on about when I say radio girl.... It means I am a girl whose whole life revolves around Radio Broadcasting! and someone who has a really bad habit of talking too much!  My goal in life is to be a radio host/DJ for a major radio station and this blog is going to document my 2014 goals of getting a job in radio... promote my show on The Yak FM... and show off all of my awesome pals who are also trying to make a name for themselves in their future chosen careers! (I am also creating this because my Public Relations tutor is obsessed with blogs and is always trying get us communications students to create a blog).

I am 19 years old, from Hamilton New Zealand. I am 5ft tall (Only just taller than a legal midget), Blonde hair, Blue eyes and now this blog sounds like I am trying to create a NZ Dating profile...

I am studying the Bachelor in Media Arts at the Waikato Institute of Technology focusing in Communications. I am starting my second year and currently have a huge dilemma of trying to decide whether to major in Journalism or Public Relations... (PROS and CONS lists DON'T help!!). I have a level 4 certificate in Radio Broadcasting and a level 4 certificate in Media Arts! (If it looks like I am hinting at a job... I am! haha)

Last year, I won a competition through Cadbury Dreams and became The Edge FM apprentice for a week and it was seriously cool! I met Jay-Jay, Mike and Dom, all of The Edge team, went and did some Road Running, went to the VNZMAs and more. It was definitely a dream come true and this year I want to continue it!

I am currently the host of The Yak FMs 12-1pm show! This year I want to make the show bigger, better and help promote students around the WINTEC campus and all the awesome things that occur in Hamilton.

Follow me on this awesome journey and I hope that by January 2015 I will be employed by a radio
station, and I will be a legend on the WINTEC campus for helping out other students aswell...

Peace,

Katie x
